Energy Program Officer (The Climate Reality Project Philippines)

The Climate Reality Project Philippines is hosted by the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC), an international non-government group advancing fair climate policy and low carbon and climate-resilient development. The Climate Reality Project is a Washington, DC-based non-profit organization founded and chaired by former US Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore. The mission of The Climate Reality Project is to catalyze a global solution to the climate crisis by making urgent action a necessity across every sector of society.

General Overview. The Energy Program Officer is responsible for coordinating the RE Energize PH Program’s events and conferences, including partner collaboration.

Scope of Work: The Energy Program Officer will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Organize conferences and meetings with key energy stakeholders, with particular focus on GEOP potential switchers and renewable energy suppliers, ensuring timely communication, information sharing, and activity implementation;
  2. Identify key partners, individuals and organizations; and subject matter experts for pre-identified conferences and meetings;
  3. Prepare Service Agreements and other necessary financial forms with organizations, consultants, and vendors, including monitoring of service delivery and payment schedules;
  4. Support the Energy Program Lead in the preparation of work plans, activity budgets, and documentations; and
  5. Draft monthly and quarterly Narrative Reports on the RE Energize PH Program.

Communications Lead (The Climate Reality Project Philippines)

Scope of Work: The Communications Lead will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement an effective Communications Strategy covering social media, website, and other channels, to guide the development of content, support effective and efficient communications campaigns, and ensure brand consistency;
  2. Craft and distribute content, including messages; statements; speeches; press releases; talkpoints; monthly newsletters; briefs; annual reports; and other publicity materials that communicate the Climate Reality Philippines’ viewpoints on a topic, programs, and activities;
  3. Respond to media inquiries, arrange interviews and pressers, and coordinate with the Programs Leads and Engagement Team to identify appropriate talking heads who will best represent the Climate Reality Philippines in a specific subject matter;
  4. In coordination with the Engagement Lead, identify resource persons and contributors to the column entitled Eleventh Hour, a platform in Manila Bulletin for Climate Reality Leaders to share their stories, promote their climate initiatives, and provide critical insights to issues that matter to climate action, environmental protection, and sustainable development;
  5. Review and revise monthly columns submitted by Regional Coordinators;
  6. Perform media outreach and seek opportunities to enhance the visibility of the Climate Reality Philippines’ brand, in coordination with the Creatives and New Media Lead;
  7. Lead and supervise the activities and performance of the Communications Officer;
  8. Provide a monthly report of collated media analytics and metrics, with detailed highs and lows of the communications campaign. When necessary, propose adjustments/ improvements on media strategy and engagement based on the monthly analysis; and
  9. Establish and maintain effective relationships with media partners; and maintain a database of media partners.

Low Emissions Analysis Platform (LEAP) Consultant

Responsibilities

  • Create a comprehensive Energy Demand-Side Model using the SEI-LEAP tool for the Philippines, with the following features:
    • Align the Reference Scenario with the Philippine Energy Plan (PEP);
    • Develop the following scenarios that reflects the quantitative impacts of potential demand-side policies and programs;
      • Energy efficient scenario, applying energy efficiency policies across all sectors from the reference scenario;
      • Energy efficient + electrification scenario, applying additional electrification of processes in the energy end-use sectors (particularly industry and transport sectors);
    • Draw on global best practices, use cases, and references for potential demand-side policies and programs;
    • Ensure that the Ambitious Scenario is developed in consultation with the ICSC Energy Policy team to align with LTES project objectives;
    • LEAP demand-side outputs will serve as inputs to the team’s in-house developed supply-side optimization tool, based on PyPSA;
  • Submit a consultant’s report documenting the model, presenting its results with a view to providing key inputs to the energy plan in general and the power development plan in particular.
    • Reflect quantitative impacts of potential policies and programs for energy demand-side (e.g., energy efficiency, electrification of transport, industry, cooking);
  • Work with the ICSC Energy Policy team in assessing the data requirements and other requests needed from the political partner in relation to the LEAP model; and
  • Attend regular technical calls with the team for consultations and check-in during model development.

Human Resources Manager

The Human Resources (HR) Manager position has arisen in response to our expanding initiatives and need for a robust human resources framework that will effectively support our growing team. The HR Manager will play a vital role in the strategic planning and execution of all employeerelated functions of the organization.

Objectives

Hiring a Human Resources Manager primarily aims to develop an empowered workforce invested in the organization’s goals through its employee programs and processes, specifically to:

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a similar field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in any human resources role, with at least two (2) years of experience as a Human Resources Manager, preferably with prior experience in a nonprofit organization.
  • In-depth knowledge of labor law and HR best practices.
  • Strong analytical skills and understanding of HR metrics and reporting system to enable data-driven decisions.
  • Strong managerial and leadership skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain the highly confidential nature of HR work.
  • Proficient computer skills including internet and email, MS Office, and HR management tools and database

Interns on Low Carbon Mobility

Overview

The Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC) is seeking interns to support the Urban Development Team (UDT). The interns will support research development, data collection and analysis, and stakeholder engagement from the private and public sectors. The interns will also support the implementation of the activities and projects related to urban development.

Scope of work

The interns shall contribute to UDT’s agenda on inclusive low-carbon mobility by delivering agreed research, advocacy, and communication initiatives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform desktop research on topics and studies on inclusive and sustainable low-carbon transport in Southeast Asian cities;
  • Perform other relevant tasks as required by the Urban Development team.
  • Assist in data organization and documentation of project activities; and
  • Assist in data collection, validation, and stakeholder coordination;
  • Assist in organizing, coordinating, and facilitating capacity-building activities for UDT’s projects, including workshops, training sessions, webinars, online events and face-to-face stakeholder meetings.

Qualifications

The interns must have the following qualifications:

  1. Must be enrolled in a higher education institution and are preferably doing practicum or doing academic thesis, capstone or dissertation research, preferably in the field of environmental science or management, development communication, development studies, economics, human ecology, geography, data science, and/ or transport disciplines.
  2. At least 21 years old;
  3. In good academic standing;
  4. Must be physically, mentally, and emotionally fit;
  5. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Campaign and Advocacy Officer

Background

The Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC) is seeking applicants for the position of Campaign and Advocacy Officer. This position is under contract of one (1) year, with possibility of extension. The Campaign and Advocacy will be based at ICSC’s main office in Quezon City. Majority of ICSC staff work remotely, with occasional in-person engagements in the main office as needed.

The Campaign and Advocacy Officer takes the lead in the planning, development, and implementation of the Energy Policy Team’s policy and campaign strategy supporting ICSC’s energy agenda.

Responsibilities

The Campaign and Advocacy Officer shall:

  • Under the guidance of the head of the EPT, develop, coordinate, and deliver strategies and campaigns to help drive the energy transition agenda of ICSC
  • Liaise with various partners, including, but not limited to, NGOs, academe, LGUs, government agencies, private sector, and other non-energy stakeholders to drive ICSC’s energy transition agenda
  • Develop policy briefs and papers, in collaboration with EPT’s Chief Data Scientist, Program Manager, and/or Energy Transition Campaigner
  • Provide advice and expertise when appropriate to other research assistants and policy analysts regarding political and campaign executions
  • Provide support in the drafting of communications and advocacy materials to advance ICSC’s energy transition agenda
  • Monitor the political landscape that may impact ICSC’s energy transition agenda
  • Perform other relevant duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Public Administration, Political Science, or any relevant course
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Microsoft Excel
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivated, strong desire to learn, and adaptable to a fast-paced evolving environment

External Auditor for 2024 Annual Audit

Introduction

The Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC) is an international non-government group advancing fair climate policy and low carbon, climate-resilient development. Based in the Philippines, it is engaged with the wider international climate and energy policy arena, particularly in Asia. It is recognized for its role in helping advance effective global climate action and the Paris climate agreement.

 

ICSC is inviting interested external, independent, and qualified individual auditors/ audit firms to audit the Institute’s financial statement.

Objective, Scope of Audit and Reporting

The auditor is expected to conduct the statutory financial statement of ICSC for the period January 01, 2024 to December 31, 2024, and to express audit opinion in line with the Philippine Standards on Audit, which includes examining, using test samples, evidence supporting amounts and disclosures in the financial statements, assessing accounting principles used, significant estimates made by management, and evaluating the overall financial statements presentation.

The auditor’s report shall use a format according to the Philippine standards. Auditor’s opinion shall be clearly stated. The report shall also include a Management Letter disclosing audit findings, areas for improvement identified during the audit process, and recommendations to strengthen the financial management system.
