The Clean Mobility Collective Southeast Asia (CMC-SEA) announced the launch of the Southeast Asia Mobility Awards (SEAMA) 2024, an initiative that aims to recognize cities across the region for their excellence in creating sustainable, inclusive, and commuter-friendly urban mobility systems, on December 9 , 2024.

SEAMA 2024 is a citizen-driven initiative encouraging participants to highlight their daily commuting experiences through visual storytelling. The campaign urges citizens to submit creative videos that document their journeys, focusing on two categories: the Public Transport Commuter-Friendly City Challenge and the Bicycle-Friendly City Challenge. Each video should depict a two-kilometer journey and promote public transport, active mobility, or cycling within Southeast Asian cities.

Through these submissions, the initiative seeks to celebrate the progress of Southeast Asian cities while raising awareness about the importance of sustainable transportation infrastructure. Participants can demonstrate how their cities are creating safe, inclusive, and environmentally friendly urban spaces while sharing the challenges and joys of daily commuting.

Winning entries will receive cash prizes, plaques, bicycles, and other incentives. Winners will also contribute to their city’s recognition under the Most Promising City Awards, which celebrate cities that demonstrate excellence in public transport and bicycle infrastructure. Cities will be awarded based on their urban mobility features, including the quality of sidewalks, public transport hubs, bike lanes, and end-of-trip facilities.

The campaign aims to generate at least 80 citizen submissions and engage Southeast Asia’s diverse online community to foster a sense of pride and responsibility for sustainable urban development. Besides individual awards, SEAMA will honor the top three cities in two classifications — highly urbanized metropolises and growing mid-sized cities – across both challenge categories. These cities will receive gold, silver, or bronze plaques and certificates during the awarding ceremony.

The initiative also includes a series of webinars and public discussions. The submission deadline for videos is April 22, 2025 (Earth Day), with the awarding ceremony taking place on September.
