ICSC shares in mourning the loss of Ms. Amelia Dulce “Baby” Supetran, a staunch climate advocate and climate management expert whose work has been invaluable to the Philippine climate arena. ICSC’s Climate Science Advisor, Lourdes Tibig, who worked closely with Ms. Supetran, shares a few words:

“Ms. Baby Supetran was a fiery climate warrior all her life. She was a work colleague, a mentor, and a friend—I will remember her with great fondness and the highest degree of respect.

I first met her in the early years of the creation and establishment of the now-defunct InterAgency Committee on Climate Change, where she was the first Head of its Secretariat. She was indefatigable, and had a fiery sense of nationalism. She was a staunch supporter of what Roger Berosil, Red Constantino, and Bernaditas Muller had always asked what our position on any climate negotiation agenda meant to the country.

We missed her immensely when she left government service to move to the United Nations Development Programme. She always used her knowledge and skills to push us towards what we all aspired to achieve in the global climate arena, and to help address the challenges brought about by the unfolding climate crisis.”
