The Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC) is participating at the annual June Climate Meetings of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), from June 16 to 26, 2025 at the World Conference Center in Bonn, Germany. The organization joins the over 5,000 delegates from Parties, intergovernmental bodies and observer organizations, and media outfits in continuing the UN climate talks from COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, and in preparation for COP30 in Belém, Brazil in November 2025.

ICSC serves as the co-convenor of the Independent Global Stocktake (iGST) Southeast Asia Hub, a consortium of regional civil society actors supporting the Global Stocktake (GST) processes of the UNFCCC. It is also part of the Multi-Actor Partnership (MAP) on Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance (CDRFI) in the Context of the InsuResilience Global Partnership, a global project implemented by civil society organizations from Sri Lanka, Malawi, Madagascar, Senegal, Philippines, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, Dominica, Jamaica, and Bangladesh in its second phase. ICSC serves as the main implementer of MAP-CDRFI in the Philippines.

NAP 3.0+: Leveraging Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance (CDRFI) for Adaptation

Side event organized by the Munich Climate Insurance Initiative (MCII), CARE International (CI), Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, and Institute for Climate Sustainable Cities (ICSC)

June 23 | 3:00PM CEST

Berlin Room, World Conference Center Bonn (WCCB)

The impacts of climate change have increased notably in intensity and frequency, especially in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Least Developed Countries (LDCs), and emerging economies. With increased loss and damage and a widening adaptation finance gap, these countries are at severe risk of social and economic damage associated with these negative impacts.

This session provides an overview of the MCII and UNDP study “Supplementary Guidelines on Integrating Disaster Risk Finance into NAPs” and further explores any opportunities or barriers to the inclusion of CDRFI in the formulation and implementation of National Adaptation Plans, and considers the importance of multi-stakeholder approaches in the formulation process as a method for enhancing knowledge sharing and climate resilience of the most vulnerable populations.
