Private sector pushes for sustainability:

ICD to hold webinars with ICSC, Climate Reality PH

MAKATI, 12 October 2020 — The Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), in partnership with the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC) and The Climate Reality Project (CRP) Philippines, is having a three-part webinar series on sustainability this October 21 and 29, and November 5, 2020.

The “Pilipinas: Aspire, Rise, Sustain” series is certified by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as participation in this webinar meets the recommended best practices for continuing directors education prescribed by the SEC. It aims to help directors and management (1) define the role of corporate boards towards a more sustainable and resilient future; (2) integrate climate risks to businesses through the Sustainability Finance Policy Framework; and (3) understand the importance of sustainability reporting and how it adds value for businesses.

The first webinar, to be led by The Climate Reality Project Philippines on October 21, is focused on the nexus of climate change and sustainable development. On the program are CRP’s CEO Ken Berlin, CRP Philippine Branch Manager Nazrin Castro, with speakers Climate Change Commissioner Rachel Anne Herrera, PH Lab’s Dr. Lorenzo Guinto, and University of the Philippines School of Economics Professor Toby Melissa Monsod, and ICD’s Atty. Pedro Maniego Jr. as moderator.

ICSC will lead the second webinar on sustainable finance on October 29, featuring House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Benjamin Diokno, with ICSC’s Executive Director Red Constantino as moderator and Converge Blended Finance Managing Director Robert van Zwieten as panel reactor.

Sustainability reporting is the theme of the November 5 webinar to be led by ICD, with Securities and Exchange Commissioner Kelvin Lester Lee and ICD’s Thought Leadership Committee Chairman Atty. Teodoro Kalaw IV as speakers, and ICD Chairman Rex Drilon II as moderator.

The webinar series is free for ICD members in good standing. Non members can attend any webinar for a Php 3,000 registration fee each, or enlist for all three webinars for only Php 7,000. Partners of ICSC and CRP Philippines will be given a 50 percent discount.

ICD and ICSC first started working together when they co-hosted with Ayala Corporation “Integrating Sustainability and Innovation in Corporate Strategy” last November 2019 for the fourth quarter of ICD’s Distinguished Corporate Governance Speaker Series in Makati Diamond Residences. The event was attended by over a hundred corporate directors and officers. The two organizations are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly promote sustainability and corporate governance standards of enterprises.
